MTV MOVIE AWARDS - A.K.A. TWILIGHT AWARDS

I watched the MTV movie awards hoping to see some different results this year. But ever since the Twilight series started, they have pretty much dominated the podium and defeated every other nominee. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy a good forbidden love story as much as the next gal, but at this point it would be easier to list the categories they didn't win than the ones they did. Let's just say they left with five golden bags of popcorn including "Best Movie". The evening was hosted by actor Jason Sudeikis (Horrible Bosses, Saturday Night Live) and took place at the Gibson Amphitheater. For me, the highlight of the evening was when child actress Alexys Nycole Sanchez won "Best Line From a Movie". She walked up to the stage and gave her acceptance speech and adorably ended it with, "I want to get chocolate wasted!" Coincidentally, it was one of the only funny parts in the entire Grown-Ups film.
This year's Generation Award went to the deserving Reese Witherspoon (Water for Elephants, Walk the Line, Legally Blonde) who has charmed audiences with her range of performances over her career. Not to mention she most recently co-starred with...wait for it...Twilight star Robert Pattinson, so that couldn't have hurt. "Best Jaw Dropping Moment" winner was none other than Justin Beiber. It was announced he could not be in attendance but then he magically appeared to accept his award...cue the jaw dropping of teen girls everywhere!
One delightful surprise of the evening was when Tom Felton (Harry Potter) won the "Best Villian Awards". It was nice to see a non-vampire / werewolf win and great to see another beloved young adult series giving Twilight a run for its money. Not to mention, the trailer for the latest Harry Potter installment was debuted. Being a big Potter fan, perhaps I am a bit biased in this category.
As I am sure MTV is well aware, allowing teens to vote for the awards will almost always ensure the tween star of the moment will win! But for MTV, maybe that's exactly how they want it. I'll tune in next year for the "Twilight Awards" but perhaps by then a new series favorite will sweep the night!
