WOODY ALLEN KICKS OFF LA FILM FESTIVAL

By Jordan Brandes

Some of the biggest names in the film industry, both in the U.S. and abroad, came out to celebrate the opening night of the Los Angeles Film Festival this Thursday night. The film to kick things off was Woody Allen's To Rome with Love.

The festival features a huge slate of films ranging from music videos and animation to documentary and world premieres. With more than 30 countries being represented, the festival offers filmmakers from all over the world a chance to shine in Los Angeles.

Held at L.A. Live downtown, the opening night festivities included a red carpet attended by everyone from legendary writer and director Woody Allen to Penelope Cruz and Julie Delpy.

Before the film began, Allen was there to give it a proper introduction. “I had a wonderful time making this picture in Rome. That does not mean you will enjoy it,” the director told the audience candidly. “If you like he film I’m thrilled,” he said. “If you hate it and think it was a waste of time coming, don’t let me know because I get depressed easily.”

After the show the audience was invited to a special To Rome with Love themed gala on the rooftop of the venue. Filled with Italian-style appetizers and desserts, the event also included samples and a tasting booth sponsored by Stella Artois.

The party was an excellent excuse for filmmakers both young and old from all over the world to network and bond before the festival kicked into high gear. The room was electric as the film industry let loose. The first night is over but with over a week of festivities ahead, there is still plenty more to celebrate.

The festival runs through June 24 at various locations throughout the city. For more information visit www. http://filmguide.lafilmfest.com/
