GOLDEN GODS HEAVY METAL EXHIBIT & AWARDS

By Pandie Suicide

The Grammy Museum launched their new exhibit, ‘Golden Gods: The History of Heavy Metal’ yesterday on April 11, the same day as the 4th Annual Revolver Golden Gods Awards ceremony took place at next door’s Club Nokia in the LA Live district in downtown Los Angeles.

The exhibit focuses on an often left-out genre of music, the genre of heavy metal and all the other genres and sub-genres that encompass it, from black metal to death metal to thrash metal ...you get the point!  Featuring more than 40 artifacts, handwritten lyrics, rare photos, videos and more, some highlights of the exhibition include stage props from Slayer, Slipknot’s masks, Gwar’s wardrobe pieces, guitars owned by Medgadeth’s Chris Broderick and Death’s Chuck Schuldiner, an interactive screaming booth, and all kinds of amazing album covers, posters, tour books and memorabilia.

The exhibition is slated to run through February 2013 and is a must for any heavy metal fan. You can learn more and get tickets at Grammy Musuem.

Next door the black carpet was filled with metal favorites! Highlights of the show included a performance by Slash and Alice Cooper and a rendition of Metallica’s ‘Creeping Death’ featuring Corey Taylor, Robb Flynn and Trivium. Evanescence  performed "Made of Stone", "What You Want", and "You Never Call Me When You're Sober". Dee Snider rocked "I Wanna Rock" with Black Veil Brides. Marilyn Manson performed "The Dope Show", "No Reflection" and "Sweet Dreams" and closed out the night alongside Johnny Depp who jumped on stage for a surprise guitar performance.

The show aired live on XBOX and streamed to the Revolver Magazine Facebook page. For a full list of winners, please visit Golden God Awards.
