How do you categorize a man who deliberately makes it impossible to do so? From his stellar debut, The College Dropout to his latest release, the musical scope of Kanye West is both vast and innovative. Can we call him an all-around rock star as opposed to a hip-hop artist? Do his controversial declarations have heartfelt meaning, or just a means of getting attention? Is it fair to call West a mad genius, or a narcissistic a-hole?

"Youth is wasted on the young," said some grumpy old man (George Bernard Shaw). We’ve seen the frivolous hijinks of teenagers living for the moment in comedies like American Graffiti and Superbad. The Spectacular Now attempts a more serious look at teen angst while still addressing the frivolity. They succeeded at frivolity and even a few moments, but what is the sum of the parts?
LAFF: TOLSTOY'S "BOXING DAY" BY BERNARD ROSE
This modern day adaption of Tolstoy's novella, written and directed by Bernard Rose, is the final part of a trilogy that began with Ivansxtc (2002) and The Kreutzer Sonata (2008). All three films star Danny Huston (21 Grams, The Aviator) portraying different characters. Here we see him play Basil, a family man in debt and desperate for a way out.
